The task presented to us was to design and fabricate a three-legged stool out of pine wood. I started with some sketches, made a cardboard prototype, and then renderings though SolidWorks. Once the angles and dimensions were known, I constructed the stool from the wood granted to me and some dowels. After assembled, a beeswax and orange oil stain was used to protect and bring out the grain lines.
Using a water based clay, we were tasked with making tiles with a maximum dimension of 6”x6”x0.5” which made a bigger image when put together. Using the original tile, a plaster mold was made and used to make multiple copies of the original tile. Each tile was bisque fired and glazed. Each tile here is 5”x5”x0.05”. The idea behind my tiles were fish scales, and a sea foam green glaze was air-sprayed on.
